Privacy & cookies
What we keep, and why
We run a restaurant, not a data business. This page explains, in plain English, the few details this website collects, what happens to them, and how to say no to cookies. Last updated 28 October 2026.
Who we are
The data controller for this website.
The Mesken Bar & Grill, 570 Rayleigh Road, Hutton, Brentwood, Essex CM13 1SG, is responsible for the personal information collected through themesken.co.uk.
Questions about this policy, or about anything we hold on you, go to info@themesken.co.uk or 01277 210255. Ask for the manager.
What we collect
Only what you give us, plus anonymous visit statistics if you allow them.
Party and private hire enquiries
The enquiry form on the parties page asks for your name, phone number, email address, preferred date, number of guests, the occasion, the space you have in mind and a message. We use these to reply to you and, if it goes ahead, to arrange your event. The lawful basis is that we need them to take the steps you have asked for before a booking (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
Table bookings
Tables are booked through ResDiary, whose booking form appears on our homepage. The details you enter there, including any card details used to secure a Friday or Saturday evening booking, are collected by ResDiary and its payment provider under ResDiary's privacy policy. We see your name, contact details, party size, time and any notes such as allergies so that we can seat and serve you. We never see full card numbers.
When you call or email
We keep the details you give us for as long as needed to deal with your request, such as holding a table or answering a question about a menu.
Website analytics
With your consent we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people arrive, what kind of device they use and roughly where in the world they are. Google does not store your IP address for us, and we do not use analytics to identify individuals. Analytics only sets its cookies after you press Accept in the cookie banner. See the cookies section below.
Technical logs
Like every website, our server records basic technical information about each request, such as the page asked for, the time, the browser used and the IP address it came from. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure, and they are cleared routinely.
Who sees it
We do not sell your details, and we do not use them for marketing unless you ask us to.
Your information is seen by our own team and by the few service providers that make the site work:
- ResDiary handles table bookings and any card details that secure them.
- Google provides the analytics described above, and the fonts used on this site, which means your browser requests files from Google's servers when a page loads.
- Our hosting provider stores the site and the enquiries sent through it on servers in the United Kingdom.
Google may process analytics data outside the UK. It does so under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and its own safeguards. Links to Instagram, Facebook, Tripadvisor and Google Maps take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
No longer than it is useful to you or required of us.
- Enquiries are kept until the event has taken place or the enquiry has clearly come to nothing, then deleted. Ask at any time and we will remove them sooner.
- Booking records stay in ResDiary for as long as we use that system, so that we can recognise returning guests and honour deposits and cancellations.
- Analytics data about individual visits is kept by Google Analytics for no more than 14 months before being reduced to aggregate reports.
- Accounting records that include your name, such as deposits and invoices for private hire, are kept for six years as the law requires.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law.
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or give it to you in a portable form. You can also object to our using it. Email info@themesken.co.uk and we will respond within a month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first so that we can put it right.
We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top tells you when it was last revised.
Cookies
Small files a website stores in your browser. Ours are few, and the only tracking ones are optional.
You have not made a choice yet, so analytics cookies are off.
When you first visit we show a banner asking whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you press Accept, Google Analytics runs in a consent-less mode that sets no cookies and stores no identifiers. If you press Decline, it stays that way and any analytics cookies already on your device are removed. Your choice is remembered on this device and you can change it any time using the button above or the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
mesken-consent | The Mesken | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so the banner does not keep asking. Stored in your browser's local storage, not sent to anyone. | Until you clear your browser data |
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another with a random ID, so we can count visits rather than page loads. Set only after you accept. | 2 years |
_ga_JD241NFBYN | Google Analytics | Keeps track of a single visit, such as the pages seen in one sitting. Set only after you accept. | 2 years |
Cookies set by others
The ResDiary booking form on our homepage is loaded from ResDiary's own website and may set cookies needed to complete a booking. Those are governed by ResDiary's policy. Fonts are served by Google Fonts, which sets no cookies. Links to Instagram, Facebook, Tripadvisor and Google Maps open those services, where their cookie rules apply.
Blocking cookies in your browser
You can also refuse or delete cookies in your browser's settings. Doing so will not stop this site working, though the booking form may not be able to complete a reservation without its own cookies.
